River Appreciation Day Paddle: RAD PAD IV

RADPAD IV was a great success thanks to all the organizers, the beautiful weather, and the enthusiastic paddlers. The event was planned and executed by the ephemeral River Appreciation Group (RAG) made up of members from the Choptank Trib Team, Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy, and Talbot Democratic Environmental Committee.

On June 4th, more than 40 paddlers participated and over a thousand pounds of trash were removed from the river.  There were several tires, many plastic bottles & cans, and other plastic litter. The most unusual item hauled in by paddlers was a port-a-potty!

Scout Troup 532 participated again this year. One paddler arrived with her kayak inside her Smart Car. Two other paddlers towed their kayaks by bicycle from St. Michaels, assembled a two-kayak catamaran rig, and performed the river cleaning activity.  After RAD PAD IV was over, they reversed the procedure and returned with their kayaks to St. Michaels.
